Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Quakes capitalized on 13 Fresno walks on Tuesday afternoon, beating the Grizzlies in the opening game of the six-game set, 13-8 at LoanMart Field.
Austin Gauthier had four hits and a pair of runs scored to lead Rancho's 11-hit attack, helping the Quakes to their second straight win overall.
Maddux Bruns gave the Quakes two scoreless innings to start the day, before turning it over to Huei-Sheng Lin, who struggled on Tuesday. Lin allowed five runs, including three of Fresno's four home runs on the day.
The Quakes rallied on multiple occasions, using a three-run fifth against Fresno reliever Ever Moya (1-2) to take the lead for good.
Griffin Lockwood-Powell had a two-run double and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, as he was credited with three RBIs to lead the Quakes on Tuesday.
Rancho reliever Christian Suarez (3-4) earned the win, allowing one run over 2.2 innings.
The Quakes (7-9, 43-39) will send Benony Robles (3-2) to the hill on Wednesday, as he takes on Case Williams (7-2) at 6:30pm, in game two of the series.
