Quakes reveal plans for opening night

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Join us for Opening Night Presented by Vineyard Bank here at The Epicenter, this Thursday Night! Game time is 7:05 PM, and the gates open at 6:05 PM. Just as every Thursday, it's a Thirsty Thursday, meaning $1 12 oz. draft beers and fountain drinks through the fifth inning. American Idol contestant Joelle James, a Redlands native, will sing the National Anthem. Joelle advanced to the top 40 out of 105,000 singers that auditioned for the popular TV show. Through a rigorous audition process, Joelle was one of 20 selected from 9000+ people who auditioned in Seattle last September. She and 180 other hopefuls were sent to Hollywood for a week of intense work, where she advanced into the top 40 singers. Joelle has performed at The Epicenter before, as well as at Dodger Stadium, Qualcomm Stadium, Angel Stadium, and the Staples Center.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary will provide the color guard, and the Native Sons of California will present an unfurled California State flag and Elks Lodge #836 will present an unfurled American Flag during the pre-game ceremonies. The 2007 Quakes will be introduced "All-Star Game" style, and their names and hometowns will be read.

The official ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Troy Percival, the Los Angeles Angels' career saves leader who recently signed a minor league contract and officially retired an Angel. Percival spent his first 10 seasons with the Angels, earning 316 saves before signing with the Detroit Tigers for the 2005 season. Injuries finally caught up to Percival, ending his career. He remains active in the Angels organization as a roving pitching instructor and should be a regular visitor to The Epicenter this season.

Thursday night's starting pitcher for the Quakes will be none other than former American League Cy Young winner Bartolo Colon, on rehab from the Angels. Colon is currently on the 15-day disabled list recovering from a torn rotator cuff. Another Angels' starter, Jered Weaver, who was 11-2 in his rookie season last year, will start on rehab assignment on Friday night.

Opening Night will also feature our post-game fireworks spectacular, the first of 15 fireworks shows this season.

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are the Advanced-A California League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and open their 2007 season this Thursday at 7:05 PM against the Lake Elsinore Storm.
