QMJHL Weekend Preview
March 10, 2011 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - Last weekend, the Lewiston MAINEiacs got off to a roaring start in the month of March, as they picked up five out of six possible points on the road in Halifax and PEI. This weekend, the MAINEiacs will look to continue their strong play, when they return home to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee for a two-game series with the Gatineau Olympiques on Friday and Sunday. Lewiston is 21-10-1-0 on home ice this year, entering their final two home games of the 2010-11 regular season.
With their performance last weekend, the MAINEiacs' record currently sits at 38-22-1-3 (80 points). Lewiston has locked up second place in the Telus East Division, while currently owning a one-point lead over Shawinigan for seventh place in the overall standings.
The MAINEiacs and Olympiques have met twice this season, with both games taking place at Centre Robert Guertin in Gatineau all the way back at the end of October. Gatineau opened the weekend series with a 4-3 win on October 22nd in a contest that saw the home team jump out to a 3-0 lead, before Lewiston tied the score late in the second. Jean-Gabriel's power play marker was the deciding goal at 8:46 of the third period. One day later, the MAINEiacs got revenge, spoiling the Olympiques' "Pink in the Rink" game. Gatineau took a 1-0 lead in the opening stanza, but Etienne Brodeur's goal in the second evened things up, before Pierre-Olivier Morin netted the eventual game winner at the 2:01 mark of the third period, as Lewiston picked up the 2-1 win. Nicholas Champion and Maxime Clermont were the starting netminders for both clashes.
Gatineau enters the weekend with a 39-17-3-5 record (86 points), which puts them into third place in the Telus West Division, as well as fifth place overall. The Olympiques have an outside chance at both second and fourth place in their division, while the heat remains on in the overall standings. Gatineau currently leads Acadie-Bathurst by two points for their current fifth place position.

This Weekend in the Telus East Division
The Quebec Remparts will be on home ice for a pair of games this weekend, as they continue to chase down the Montreal Junior for second place in the overall standings. On Friday night, the Victoriaville Tigres make their way to Colisee Pepsi, before the Shawinigan Cataractes make an appearance there on Sunday.
The Victoriaville Tigres are in a dead heat with the Moncton Wildcats for ninth place in the overall standings, and will have two chances this weekend to pick up some points. Victoriaville will visit the Quebec Remparts on Friday night, before returning home for a possible first round preview with the Shawinigan Cataractes on Saturday.
The Chicoutimi Sagueneens will welcome the Val-d'Or Foreurs to Centre Georges Vezina for a two-game weekend series on Friday and Saturday. The Sagueneens are currently in 12th place in the overall standings, trailing PEI by four points for 11th. Meanwhile, Val-d'Or is close to locking up 14th place in the overall standings.
The Rimouski Oceanic will play three games in four days this weekend, with all three games taking place at Colisee de Rimouski. The Oceanic will face the best and worst teams in the league, starting with the tall task of battling Saint John Sea Dogs on Thursday. On Saturday and Sunday, Rimouski will host Rouyn-Noranda, who is coming off of a win against Montreal last weekend.
The Baie-Comeau Drakkar will be on the road to collide with the top two teams in the Telus West Division. The Drakkar will begin their weekend voyage in Drummondville on Saturday, before continuing on to Montreal on Sunday.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan will have their eyes on Lewiston, while also playing two games of their own at KC Irving Regional Centre. The Titan will host the Saint John Sea Dogs on Friday, before welcoming the Halifax Mooseheads to town on Saturday. Acadie-Bathurst currently trails Gatineau by two points, while leading the MAINEiacs by four points.
The Moncton Wildcats are looking to keep pace with the Victoriaville Tigres, while also looking to keep a solid lead over the PEI Rocket. Interestingly enough, Moncton and PEI will clash on Sunday afternoon at Charlottetown Civic Centre. Prior to that, the Wildcats will visit Cape Breton, while the Rocket will host Halifax, with both games taking place on Friday night.
Three other games will take place in the QMJHL this weekend, as Shawinigan hosts Rouyn-Noranda on Thursday, Drummondville visits Montreal on Friday, and Saint John meets up with Cape Breton on Sunday in a possible playoff preview in Sydney.
