QMJHL Weekend Preview
December 16, 2010 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - On Wednesday night, the Lewiston MAINEiacs made it two wins in a row against teams from the Maritimes Division, as they picked up a thrilling 6-5 victory over the PEI Rocket at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. With the win, Lewiston has now matched their win total from all of last season, improving to 23-12-0-2 (48 points) in 37 games. Cole Hawes paced the offensive attack on Wednesday for the MAINEiacs, netting the first two tallies of the contest. Francis Beauvillier and Antoine Houde-Caron joined their teammate on the scoresheet, but the home team still trailed 5-4 after two periods of play. In the third period, Stefan Fournier and Michael Chaput changed the story, lifting Lewiston to the 6-5 win. Andrey Makarov stopped all 13 shots he faced in the third period for the win. The MAINEiacs remain in second place in the Telus East Division, while joining Drummondville in a tie for fourth place overall.
This weekend, the MAINEiacs will hit the road for a pair of games, finishing off the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule. The two teams on the docket are the Montreal Junior and Shawinigan Cataractes. Montreal is one of two teams (Halifax being the other) that Lewiston has yet to defeat this season. Of course, the MAINEiacs haven't faced Halifax, while only having met up with the Junior once. That tilt came on December 5th, with visiting Montreal picking up a 5-3 win in Lewiston. The Junior enter the weekend in the top spot in the Telus West Division, carrying a record of 25-5-3-2 (55 points). Meanwhile, the MAINEiacs have faced the Cataractes twice, with the visiting team winning both times. Shawinigan blanked Lewiston 6-0 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on October 20th, before the MAINEiacs rebounded for a 2-1 overtime win at Centre Bionest on November 20th. The Cataractes are in fourth place in the Telus West Division, entering the weekend with a record of 19-11-2-1 (41 points).

This Weekend in the Telus East Division
The Quebec Remparts have won each of their last five games, extending their lead in the division to eight points. Quebec will be in action twice this weekend, starting at home on Friday night against Drummondville. On Saturday, the Remparts will hit the road to face the rival Chicoutimi Sagueneens.
The Victoriaville Tigres will make the trek to the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region for a pair of weekend contests. The Tigres' road trip begins on Friday in Val-d'Or, and ends in Rouyn-Noranda on Saturday. The Foreurs and Huskies have both been struggling as of late, with Val-d'Or currently on a five-game skid, and Rouyn-Noranda having won just one of their last ten games.
The Rimouski Oceanic are right in the middle of Victoriaville and Chicoutimi, with two points separating them from both positions in the division. The Oceanic swept Val-d'Or at home last weekend, but will be tested this weekend with three road games in three days. Rimouski's journey begins in Chicoutimi on Thursday, before ending with a pair of battles in Baie-Comeau on Friday and Saturday.
The Chicoutimi Sagueneens got off to a slow start to the season, but have won each of their last five games, and are now within two poinst of fourth place in the division. The Sagueneens could move into a tie for fourth on Thursday, when they play host to Rimouski. Chicoutimi's five-game winning streak began on December 3rd with a 5-3 win over the Oceanic. The Sagueneens will also face a divisional opponent on Saturday, when Quebec visits the Centre Georges Vezina.
The Baie-Comeau Drakkar enjoyed a stretch where they won three out of six games, but have since lost three in a row. One of the teams from the victorious stretch was Rimouski, who Baie-Comeau will face twice this weekend on their home ice at the Centre Henry Leonard. The games will take place on Friday and Saturday.
