Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs continued their strong play as of late, winning two of their three games last week, improving to 9-3 in their last 12 contests. The MAINEiacs started the week on Thursday with their best offensive performance of the season, shooting down the Halifax Mooseheads 9-3 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The team then hit the road for the weekend, splitting a pair of tilts against the Victoriaville Tigres. Lewiston came inches away from a tie game on Saturday, but an empty netter by the Tigres finished off their 7-5 win. On Sunday, the MAINEiacs were able to knot the game at three, before a 2-for-3 effort in a shootout gave the visitors a 4-3 victory at Colisee Desjardins.

With hat tricks on Thursday and Saturday, Etienne Brodeur became the first player in franchise history to score three goals in back-to-back games, giving him 38 goals in 47 games this season. The 19-year old added an assist on Sunday for a seven-point week. Michael Chaput also continued his offensive success, lighting the lamp twice on Thursday and once on Sunday, giving him seven goals in his last five games. Andrey Makarov was the goaltender of record in all three games, including a 30-save effort in Thursday's win.

Last Week in the Telus East Division

The Quebec Remparts (34-8-1-2, 71 pts) played a couple of times last week, and did what they needed to, picking up a pair of wins. On Wednesday, the Remparts took on one of the hottest teams in the league, edging Gatineau 4-3 on the road. Then, on Friday, the Baie-Comeau Drakkar invaded Colisee Pepsi, but were unsuccessful, as Quebec earned a 7-4 win.

The Victoriaville Tigres (24-18-1-3, 52 pts) were unbeaten in regulation last week, earning five out of six possible points. The Tigres started the week on Wednesday with a 5-3 win over Baie-Comeau at Colisee Desjardins, before splitting a pair of games with the MAINEiacs. Victoriaville came out on top 7-5 on Saturday, before Lewiston got revenge with a 4-3 shootout win on Sunday.

The Rimouski Oceanic (23-22-1-1, 48 pts) were also at home last week, coming away with a 1-1 record. The Oceanic took out Shawinigan 4-1 on Friday night, before falling to Baie-Comeau 5-2 on Saturday.

The Chicoutimi Sagueneens (16-20-3-6, 41 pts) took the ice for three games in the Maritimes Division last week, but only came out with one point for their troubles. The Sagueneens earned that point in their first game of the weekend, dropping a 3-2 shootout at PEI. Saturday's game was also close, but the Moncton Wildcats had the final say in a 2-1 victory at Moncton Coliseum. Finally, on Sunday, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan took advantage of a tired Chicoutimi squad, doubling them up 8-4.

The Baie-Comeau Drakkar (7-31-5-4, 23 pts) played three divisional games with mixed results. The week started slowly for Baie-Comeau, who lost 5-3 to Victoriaville on Wednesday and 7-4 to Quebec on Friday. However, the weekend ended on a good note, as the Drakkar picked up a 5-2 win in Rimouski on Saturday. Two of Baie-Comeau's seven wins have come at the hands of the Oceanic.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL

The Acadie-Bathurst Titan have picked things up since the start of the new year, going unbeaten in regulation in seven straight games. Three of those contests took place last week, with Acadie-Bathurst earning a perfect 3-0 record. The Titan took out Cape Breton 5-3 on Thursday, squeaked out a 3-2 shootout win over PEI on Saturday, and lit up Chicoutimi 8-4 on Sunday.

The Drummondville Voltigeurs hit the road for four games against the Maritimes Division, and did well, returning home with three wins. The Voltigeurs started the week with a 4-0 blanking of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Wednesday. After a 7-4 setback to Saint John on Friday, Drummondville responded, getting revenge on the Sea Dogs 3-2 in a shootout on Saturday, before beating out Moncton 6-4 on Sunday.

Despite their shootout loss to Drummondville, the Saint John Sea Dogs did pick up five out of six possible points on the week, winning a 3-2 shootout against PEI on Tuesday. Saint John remains unbeaten in regulation on home ice, with one overtime loss and one shootout loss as the lone blemishes.

The Halifax Mooseheads ran into three of the better teams in the league last week, and it showed, as the Mooseheads' defense had a difficult time keeping the puck out of the net. After a 9-3 loss in Lewiston on Thursday, Halifax traveled to Gatineau and Montreal, were they suffered back-to-back 5-2 defeats.

The Montreal Junior headed out west for a couple of games against Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d'Or. The Junior won both games, beating the Huskies 5-1 on Thursday and the Foreurs 3-2 on Friday. That set up a head-to-head meeting between the two clubs, with Rouyn-Noranda upending Val-d'Or 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday.
