Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs finished the unofficial first half of the season by playing three games in four days last week, going 2-1 in the process. Interestingly enough, the team that trailed after two periods won all three games. The MAINEiacs started the week on Wednesday, taking the ice for their lone home contest of the week. Lewiston got out to a pair of two-goal leads against the PEI Rocket, only to trail 5-4 after two periods of play. In the third, the home team made a comeback, scoring twice for a 6-5 win. On Friday, Lewiston traveled to Verdun to face the Montreal Junior. This was also a back-and-forth game, as the MAINEiacs led 1-0, trailed 3-1, and led 4-3, before ultimately falling 7-5. On Saturday, the MAINEiacs never led in Shawinigan until it mattered. The Cataractes had leads of 1-0, 2-1, and 4-2, but Pierre-Olivier Morin's goal with 3:41 was the difference in Lewiston's 5-4 come from behind win. The MAINEiacs enter the holidays with a 24-13-0-2 record (50 points), which is good for second place in the Telus East Division, as well as a tie for fifth place in the overall standings.

Chicoutimi then returned home for two more divisional contests, falling 3-2 in regulation to Rimouski on Friday, before dropping a 5-4 decision in overtime to Quebec on Saturday.

The Baie-Comeau Drakkar (4-25-5-4, 17 pts) have run into another rut, dropping each of their last five contests. All three defeats took place on home ice, starting with a 6-3 loss to Chicoutimi on Monday. The Drakkar then welcomed Rimouski to town for a weekend series, falling 3-2 on Friday, before picking up one point in a 2-1 overtime loss on Saturday.
