
QMJHL unveils the Kia Humanitarian of the Year Award winner

Longueuil, QC - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) announced today the winner for the prestigious Kia Humanitarian of the Year award. The trophy is awarded annually to a player for his outstanding contribution to the well-being of his community. Past recipients include Daniel Brière, Simon Gamache and Samuel Laberge, who won the award twice.
Daniel Brière is the special presenter of this year's Kia Humanitarian of the Year Trophy. The Gatineau native had a phenomenal major junior hockey career with the Drummondville Voltigeurs. In a three-year span, the first round pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in 1996 piled up 416 points (170 goals and 246 assists) in 198 regular season games while adding 37 points during the President Cup playoffs. Besides his exceptional on-ice performances, Brière was also heavily involved in the community. He received the Humanitarian of the Year award (Karcher Plaque) in 1996 as a member of the Voltigeurs organization.
