QMJHL training camps open this Friday

August 10, 2005 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release


BOUCHERVILLE, Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 (QMJHL) - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League training camps open this Friday, August 12th as Baie-Comeau, Chicoutimi and Saint John are the first to hit the ice. The President Cup champions and Memorial Cup finalists Rimouski Océanic open their camps the following day.

Saturday, August 13th, 2005 : Rimouski
Sunday, August 14th, 2005 : Acadie-Bathurst, Drummondville, Quebec, Rouyn-Noranda, Shawinigan, Val d'Or
Monday, August 15th, 2005 : Gatineau, Victoriaville
Tuesday, August 16th, 2005 : Lewiston, St.John's
Thursday, August 18th, 2005 : Cape Breton, Moncton, PEI
Friday, August 19th, 2005 : Halifax

Pre-season contests begin on Tuesday, August 16th and end on Sunday, September 11th. Of interest, the St. John's Fog Devils of the QMJHL and the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) will meet on two consecutive days - September 10th and 11th - in Corner Brook. Another QMJHL-OHL matchup sees the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies visit the Sudbury Wolves on September 10th. Also, a few preseason games will be played in different markets or arenas:

Quebec will play Rimouski on Wednesday, August 17th in Rivière-du-Loup; the next day, Baie-Comeau will go up against Rimouski in Matane; On August 21st, St. John's plays against Halifax at Cole Harbour Place and Chicoutimi will meet Quebec at the Ste-Foy Arena; On August 23rd, Halifax will host Acadie-Bathurst at the Halifax Forum and St. John's will visit PEI at MacLauchlan Arena; the Acadie-Bathurst vs. Moncton matchup on August 25th will be presented at the Tim Horton 4-Plex as will Moncton's games against the visiting Saint John Sea Dogs on September 2nd followed by the Lewiston contest on September 11th; Val-d'Or, who go up against Victoriaville on August 28th will do so at the Pavillon Jean Béliveau; the PEI vs. Halifax contest on September 2nd will be presented at the Halifax Forum; On September 8th, Halifax will host Cape Breton at the Dartmouth Sportplex; the Rimouski Océanic will play the Remparts in Quebec City at Laval University's PEPS Centre on September 10th; and finally, Rouyn-Noranda will host Drummondville in Témiscamingue the next day.

A total of 67 pre-season games will be played amongst the 18 QMJHL teams. Each club will play between 5 and 10 contests.

The regular season finally kicks-off on the evening of September 15th, as the Quebec Remparts visit the 2004-05 champions Océanic in Rimouski.
