QMJHL reveals the Defenseman of the Year

May 20, 2020 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release


Longueuil, QC - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today released the winner of the Émile-Bouchard Trophy awarded to the Defenseman of the Year. The 2019-2020 finalists were Justin Bergeron (Rimouski Océanic), Jordan Spence (Moncton Wildcats) and William Villeneuve (Saint John Sea Dogs).

Recipient of this award in 2016-2017, former Saint John Sea Dogs defenseman Thomas Chabot announces this season's Émile-Bouchard Trophy winner. The Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce native played four seasons in the QMJHL with the Sea Dogs and earned a President Cup title in 2017. In 202 regular season games, Chabot scored 34 goals and added 119 helpers, all while adding an impressive 45 points in 40 post-season games. In 2015, he was a first round selection of the Ottawa Senators at the NHL Entry Draft. Chabot was also ranked 24th on the list of the QMJHL's Top 50 players of all-time as part of the league's 50^th anniversary celebrations last year.
