April 7, 2011 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - On Wednesday night, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League held its annual Hall of Fame Ceremony and Awards Gala, recognizing four instrumental people in the league's history, while also honoring the current players that made the 2010-11 season so special.
The night began with a gathering for everyone in attendance. Players, coaches, staff members, and league personnel all had the opportunity to walk around, shaking hands, meeting new faces, and renewing some old friendships. The Lewiston MAINEiacs had the following nine representatives present: Bill Schurman, Tim Schurman, Jean-Francois Houle, Darren Rumble, DJ Abisalih, Etienne Brodeur, Cameron Critchlow, Olivier Dame-Malka, and Antoine Houde-Caron. Due to location, playoff series, or number of awards the team was receiving, some QMJHL clubs had full groups, while other teams were lacking much of a presence.
Following the meet and greet, everyone was assigned a table for dinner, where they enjoyed a terrific meal prepared by the Hyatt-Regency Hotel. After dinner, it was show time.
The presentation began with a video piece, highlighting some of the top moments from the 2010-11 season. The video began by featuring each of the league's 18 teams, showing a clip or two in various locations. Lewiston's two shots were a goal celebration, as well as a view of the team's bench during the national anthems. Once the videos concluded, Commissioner Gilles Courteau addressed everyone, thanking them for a wonderful season, while also setting up the evening.
During the course of the night, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League inducted four members into the league's Hall of Fame, with each member giving a speech, while also receiving a ring, commemorating their achievement. The four members in the 2011 class were (in the order in which they spoke): Robert Desjardins, Harold MacKay, Martin Lapointe, and Vincent Damphousse.
The Hall of Fame inductees were mixed in, along with 13 individual awards that were given out, as well as the announcements of the First and Second Team All-Stars, to go along with the All-Rookie Team.
All of Wednesday night's winners are listed below.
Coming up on Thursday, the league will return to the Hyatt-Regency Hotel for the announcements of the first overall pick for the 2012 QMJHL Entry Draft, as well as the host of the 2012 Mastercard Memorial Cup. There are two teams with the ability to gain the first overall pick - the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Baie-Comeau Drakkar. There are four teams with the ability to host the Memorial Cup - the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Halifax Mooseheads, Saint John Sea Dogs, and Shawinigan Cataractes.
