Published on January 16, 2013 under Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
BOUCHERVILLE, Wednesday January 16, 2013 - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is proud to announce the Excellence Challenge from May 2nd to the 5th, 2013. The goal of this challenge is to create continuity in the delivery of the Program of Excellence of Hockey Canada and more specifically the under 17 program. The Excellence Challenge will be able to help our players be more prepared and organized in order to continue their development as athletes for the various Hockey Canada teams.
It will also help the League better identify the best prospects in Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces by providing a venue where teams of 20 players under 16 years of age will be able to showoff their skills competing for the QMJHL Gold Cup awarded to the best team.
"This is a terrific opportunity to see future QMJHL prospects and shed the spotlight to some of the brightest young talents our country has to offer," said QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau.
Teams will be formed from each one of the Maritime Provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland in addition to two Quebec based teams. The event will be held at the Centre d'Excellence Sport Rousseau in Blainville-Boisbriand.
