East Texas PumpJacks News Release
The second Fireworks Friday of the season ended with a bang as the East Texas Pump Jacks worked their way back into the win column with a 7-2 victory over the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Friday night at historic Driller Park.
Fans were in a good mood to enjoy the best fireworks show in East Texas after watching the Pump Jack offense explode past the Cane Cutters.
The Jacks took control of the game in the sixth inning, erupting for five runs to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 6-2 lead. East Texas batted around for the first time in more than two weeks, sending a total of ten batters to the plate. Brooks Marlow got the rally started, leading off the inning with a single to center. Joey Armstrong followed suit with a single of his own. McMullen tied the game with a screaming double over the head of the Cutters' center fielder, driving home Marlow from second. With runners on second and third, a walk to Zach Jones loaded the bases full of Pump Jacks with no outs.
Designated hitter Ryan Hope came through in the clutch with a broken bat single through the hole on the left side to plate two runners and give the Pump Jacks a 4-2 lead. Another walk, this time to Devon Conley, loaded the bases for the second time in the inning. Back-to-back wild pitches plated Jones and Hope to give East Texas a four-run advantage, 6-2.
The Jacks scored their final run of the ballgame in the eighth inning thanks to Conley's speed. He led off the inning with a slow roller to short and used his wheels to beat out the throw for an infield single. He stole second and moved to third when an errant throw by the Acadiana catcher bounced into center field. Conley came home on a passed ball to give the Pump Jacks a 7-2 lead, which turned out to be the final margin of victory.
The Cane Cutters actually got on the board first, scoring in the top of the second. After making two great defensive plays, Garrett McMullen dove for a ball and watching it bounce in and out of his glove, allowing an Acadiana runner to score from second for a 1-0 lead. The Cutters added another run in the fifth to go up 2-0.
The Pump Jacks answered right back in the home half of the fifth when Mark Mathias recorded his first hit of the season, a homer to left that cut the lead in half. The long balll gave the Pump Jacks momentum, which carried into the sixth inning rally.
Robert Parucha made his Pump Jack debut on the mound and went five strong innings, but he came away without a decision. Parucha allowed only two runs on seven hits while striking out one. J.J. Franklin earned the win in relief with two stellar innings, giving up just one hit and striking out three. Don Sullivan came in to get one out in the eighth, but after issuing a walk his night was done and he gave way to Ty Marlow. Marlow closed out the game for the Jacks and struck out three of the five batters he faced.
