East Texas PumpJacks News Release

Due to mechanical issues, the East Texas Pump Jacks did not begin their final road contest of the regular season until 10:00 p.m. local time in Lafayette against the Acadiana Cane Cutters.

The East Texas hitters also were delayed in their start at the plate, and could not get going against the Acadiana Cane Cutters in a 4-0 loss.

The Cane Cutters made the first real threatening on the basepaths against Ty Schlottmann. Two singles led off the bottom of the third inning, and a sacrifice bunt moved both runners up to second and third base, respectively. With one out, a sharp ground ball to Kevin O'Leary at shortstop turned into a fielder's choice, as O'Leary came home to nab Andrew Brown trying to score and keep dueling zeroes on the scoreboard. A flyout by Isaac Rodriguez ended the frame as Schlottmann worked out of the jam.

In fact, that was the most that either team did in the first five innings. Schlottmann struck out seven Cane Cutters and allowed just three hits in the first five frames, while his counterpart Kaleb Manual allowed only two hits and fanned three Jacks in that span.

The Cane Cutters threatened again in the bottom of the sixth, and this time they broke the scoreless tie. Braxton Lee led off with a double, and a sacrifice bunt moved him to third before a sacrifice fly by Mitchell Nau gave Acadiana a 1-0 lead.

The Pump Jacks attempted a rally of their own in the top of the seventh. Whitt Dorsey led off with a single, and after two outs were recorded, Logan Preston worked a walk, moving Dorsey to second. But Manual struck out the next batter looking to snuff out the threat.

Manual ended up snuffing out any further threats as well by East Texas, throwing eight shutout innings and avenging a loss to the Jacks on July 17 in Kilgore. The Cane Cutters would also tack on three runs in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin.

The Pump Jacks managed only three hits in the contest- one each by Dorsey, Taylor Murphy and Tyler Sullivan, in finishing their TCL road slate with a 16-16 record.

The Pump Jacks will now return home to Driller Park for the remaining five games in their regular season schedule, as well as for the first round of the playoffs.

On Monday night, when the Jacks host the Victoria Generals, it will be Dog Days of Summer at Driller Park, with fans being able to enjoy $1 hot dogs all game long. Tuesday night will be another Family Night, where families of four can purchase tickets for just $10, and can add a meal voucher to their tickets for just $15 more.

Wednesday night is yet another Western Wednesday, with the ever-popular barbecue nachos and Ziegenbock beer at the concession stand.

First pitch for each game is set for 7:05 p.m.

Playoff tickets are also on sale now! By virtue of winning the first-half title, the Jacks' will host a first-round playoff game on Sunday, August 12. This year, the first round of the TCL playoffs is just one game, so the Jacks will be playing for a berth in the TCL Championship Series. Tickets are on sale now on the web, by phone, or at the Pump Jacks office in downtown Kilgore.
