East Texas PumpJacks News Release
Mother Nature struck yet again at historic Driller Park Tuesday night in the Pump Jacks first half finale against the Alexandria Aces.
Ty Marlow, however, struck first by belting the first home run at Driller Park this season and his third overall as the Jacks topped the Aces 3-0 in six innings of play. The Pump Jacks improved their record to a Texas Collegiate League best 19-10 and are a perfect 6-0 against the Aces this season.
Play was rolling along quickly when lightning lit up the sky in right field, forcing the umpires to suspend play shortly after 9 p.m. with the game in the top of the seventh. Less than five minutes later, heavy rain had moved into the area, forcing the game to be called at 9:23. More than five innings had been played, resulting in a complete game and another win for the Pump Jacks, who won have won 14 of the last 17 games.
Marlow led the Jacks attack going 2-for-3 with the long ball and a single. Scott Kalush knocked in two runs on a two-out single and reached base on a four-pitch walk. Colton Bickerstafff scored once and laced his seventh double of the season. Tyler Girouard rounded out the Jacks hitting attack with a single.
Brad Fisher picked up his second win of the season, tossing the six-inning complete game shutout. He gave up five hits, all leadoff singles to the Aces. Fisher struck out two and the Jacks defense was perfect to shutdown the Aces.
Starting pitching was dominant early for both teams as it appeared that a pitchers duel was in store.
Marlow then stepped to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the third and crushed a fastball over the wall in left-centerfield to give the Jacks a 1-0 lead.
Bickerstaff led off the bottom of the fourth with a stand-up double and advanced to third on a wild pitch to third. Hunter Dozier was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on an error from Aces first baseman Brandon Milhouse. Kalush then stroked a ball to leftfield, plating Bickerstaff easily with the speedy Dozier scoring from second, giving the Jacks the 3-0 lead they would carry until storms ended the contest early.
Tuesday night marked the end of the first half of the TCL season with the Pump Jacks atop the standings. The Jacks clinched the division title and a number one seed in the playoffs on Saturday.
The Jacks look to keep the dominance rolling into the second half, traveling to Brazos Valley Wednesday for a two-game set against the Bombers.
The Jacks will wrap up Independence Day week on Friday, July 8, with the team's third Fireworks Friday of the season. A spectacular post-game fireworks show will follow the Coppell Copperheads' first visit to historic Driller Park. The evening's celebration is presented by Jim Tachias of Wells Fargo Financial Advisors and KLTV News.
The Jacks close out the series against the Copperheads on Saturday, July 9, with a ballpark giveaway. Stay tuned to pumpjacksbaseball.com for more details.
