East Texas PumpJacks News Release
The Pump Jacks fell to the Texas Marshals for the first time all season by a score of 6-1 at Jesuit Prep High School in Dallas.
Again, it was the opposition getting on the board first, this time in the bottom of the first against Corey Ray. With one out, Ronnie Mitchell tripled to right-center field and was followed by an RBI single off the bat of Brandon Dixon, giving the Marshals a 1-0 lead. In the second, the Marshals extended the lead to 2-0 in the second on an RBI groundout.
In the top of the third, the Pump Jacks made their first serious threat of the game. Justin Wall led off with a walk against Austin Verplank, but was caught stealing for the first out of the inning. R.J. Santigate then singled off the pitcher, and was followed by a walk to Taylor Murphy and a hit-by-pitch to Kash Kalkowski to load the bases with one out. But Verplank was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout and a flyout to keep the Jacks off the scoreboard.
The Marshals then made it 4-0 in the third. Jesse Plumlee singled home Dixon from third base, and scored the third run of the game. That was followed by a throw to try and catch Plumlee stealing second base that was errant, allowing Travis Schuetze, who had walked earlier in the inning, to score from third base.
Again, the Pump Jacks threatened in the next half-inning, and this time, they took advantage. Charlie Wagner worked a walk, and after Kevin O'Leary was hit by a pitch, Louie Helmburg sacrificed both runners up a base. Santigate then hit an infield single that brought home Wagner to make the score 4-1 Marshals.
But the Marshals came back with two more runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Jackson Morris, making the score 6-1 and chasing Ray from the game.
The Pump Jacks would threaten again in the top of the seventh. Santigate led off with a single and was replaced by Murphy on a fielder's choice. Kalkowski then singled, but a double play ended the rally.
A bright spot for the Jacks was Bryce Lombardi, who turned in his most impressive outing of the season. He pitched 2.1 perfect innings with two strikeouts for the Pump Jacks.
Santigate led the offensive charge for the Pump Jacks with a 3-for-4 performance, but the rest of the lineup had just four hits as East Texas fell to 2-4 in the second half of the 2012 season.
The Pump Jacks will conclude their current road swing in Alexandria when they face off against the Aces. East Texas returns home on Tuesday night against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Family Night. Families of four can experience the excitement of Pump Jacks baseball for only $10, and can add meal vouchers to their tickets including a hot dog, a bag of chips and a soft drink for just $15 more.
The next night is another Western Wednesday, featuring barbeque nachos and Ziegenbock beer at the concession stand. Two nights later is another Fireworks Friday, with a postgame fireworks show set to a unique soundtrack presented by SWEPCO and CBS-19.
First pitch for each game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
