East Texas PumpJacks News Release
If Texas Collegiate League opponents haven't learned so far this season that no base is safe when Kirby Pellant reaches, all hope may be lost.
Pellant stole a season-high four bases and went 4-for-5 with three runs scored to lead the Pump Jacks over the Acadiana Cane Cutters 5-3, one night after the Jacks fell in their largest loss of the season, 8-1, to the Cutters.
The Ohio State commit has stolen a TCL-best 32 bags this season, 12 of which have come over the past seven games as the Pump Jacks moved to 35-16 on the year.
Brad Fisher carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning to pick up his fourth win of the season. The Oral Roberts freshman tossed 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on two hits while striking out four. Hallsville native Jason Jester earned his seventh save on the summer, tossing two scoreless innings to close out the contest.
Seth Granger went 2-for-5 with an RBI, marking the seventh straight game he has recorded a hit. Ty Marlow added an RBI single. Corey Falvey picked up his first RBI in a Pump Jacks uniform while Tyler Girouard, Beau Maggi and Jace Statum each added hits to round out the Jacks offensive attack.
The Jacks wasted no time Tuesday night getting things going. Pellant led of the top of the first with his first single of the night and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Ryan Small. He then stole his first base of the contest and scored on an RBI single from Marlow to give the Jacks the early 1-0 lead.
Such was the case in the third inning as well. Pellant reached on a one-out single, stole second and scored on an RBI single from Granger, extending the Jacks lead to 2-0.
The Jacks added two more in fifth when Pellant once again reached on single, stole second and third before scoring on an error from the Cutters' catcher. Small reached on a walk and advanced to second on a Granger single before scoring on another Cutters error, giving the Jacks a 4-0 lead.
Girouard led of the sixth on a first-pitch single. He stole a base of his own and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Falvey then belted a groundball down the third base line, scoring Girouard easily and giving him his first RBI of the season and the Jacks the 5-0 lead.
Carrying a no-hitter, Fisher struck out the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the sixth before giving up a single to Taylor Dugas. He then walked the next two batters to load the bases. Two runners scored on a wild pitch and a passed ball before Les Aulds belted his first triple of the season, cutting the Jacks lead to 5-3.
James Hudelson took over with two outs and the bases loaded after Brett Higginbotham walked the two batters he faced and got a groundout to end the Cutters' threat.
Hudelson sat the Cutters down in order in the seventh, striking out one, before giving way to Jester to close out the final two innings of the contest.
The Jacks welcome the Cane Cutters to historic Driller Park for a two-game set on Wednesday and Thursday.
Wednesday is Winning Inning Wednesday presented by Jack in the Box. If the Jacks score three or more runs in any inning, every fan in attendance will receive a coupon for a free value menu item from Jack in the Box.
The Jacks will be giving fans the shirts off their back on Thursday... literally with "Shirts Off Our Back" Night presented by K-K Mobbs Construction, Ave Can Properties and Marco Inspection Services. Fans can win a special game-worn jersey or purchase one through an auction to benefit a charity. Every fan in attendance can enter to win a jersey.
