California Cougars News Release

Stockton, CA -The Stockton Pumas, the official development team of the Stockton Cougars, look to clinch the Premier Arena Soccer League Pacific Division title with a win against Off the Wall Soccer Santa Clara (OTWSSC) and a loss from the Turlock Express at Turlock Indoor Soccer on Saturday, July 12. Santa Clara will play two times in the three team doubleheader. The first match is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and is against Turlock, the second is with Stockton beginning at 8:00 p.m.

Turlock Indoor Soccer is both the home arena for the Express and the Pumas. Stockton finishes their home schedule with Saturday's match. The team continues the 2008 summer schedule with their regular season finale on July 19 against Chico.

The Pumas (4-1-1, 13 points) currently lead the Express (3-1-2, 11 points) by two points in the Pacific Division standings.

The team won the Pacific Division title in both the 2007 summer season and the winter season of 2007-08. The Pumas were the PASL-Premier national champions following their 2007 summer division title. The tournament was played in Tacoma, WA. Cougars and former Pumas goalkeeper Matt McDougall was named the most valuable player in the championship tournament.

OTWSSC is coached by Cougars midfielder Vicente Figueroa. He has guided the team to a 2-2-0 mark (four points), which places them tied for fourth in the Pacific Division.

Bernie Lilavois is both a player and the head coach of the Pumas. It is the same role he holds with the Cougars of the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro).

The Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL-Premier) is split into two divisions for the summer campaign. Six teams compete in the Pacific Division, while five others play in the Rocky Mountains division.

The Pacific Division consists of the Pumas, OTWSCC, Express, Chico Bigfoot, Sacramento Scorpions and Real California FC.

The Rocky Mountains Division is made up of the Southern Colorado Stars, Colorado Predators, Ft. Collins Fury, Northern Colorado Cutthroats and Ft. Collins Diablos.

The Pumas opened the summer schedule with a 12-2 defeat over the Sacramento Scorpions on Saturday, May 31. The Scorpions managed just the two goals against a Stockton defense led by Oscar Ramos. Ramos recorded two goals and assisted a score for the Pumas. Forward Hugo Brambilla scored four of Stockton's 12 goals. Lilavois added a goal with three assists.

They have since picked up wins against Real California FC (13-5), Chico (11-5) and OTWSSC (3-0). They have lost once to Real California FC (3-0) and had one tie against Turlock (8-8). The PASL-Premier uses a single point scoring system.
