Pumas continue Premier League schedule in Turlock

Stockton, CA - The Stockton Pumas, of the Premier Arena Soccer League, continue their 2008 premier league summer schedule against the Turlock Express at Turlock Indoor Soccer on Sunday, June 8th at 6:15 p.m. The Pumas (1-0) are the official development team of the Professional Arena Soccer League's Stockton Cougars. The match marks the second opportunity for Northern California arena soccer fans to show their support for the area's top amateur soccer talent.
The Pumas opened the summer schedule with a 12-2 defeat over the Sacramento Scorpions on Saturday, May 31. The Scorpions managed just the two goals against a Stockton defense led by Oscar Ramos. Ramos recorded two goals and assisted a score for the Pumas. Forward Hugo Brambilla scored four of Stockton's 12 goals. Head coach and current forward of the Pumas, Bernie Lilavois added a goal with three assists.
The match is the first of the season for the Express. Turlock, like Stockton, plays in the Premier League Pacific division. Other Pacific division teams include Real California FC, Chico Bigfoot, OTWSSC Men and Sacramento Scorpions. Real California FC and Chico play a Pacific Division match on June 7th at "At the Playground" in Camarillo, CA.
The Pumas are the defending summer national champions having won the title in 2007 at the national championship tournament in Tacoma, WA. They finished that season with a 6-2-0 record. The Pumas allowed a league low 61 goals in 2007, and used a +5 goal differential to their winning mark.
The Pumas roster will consist of local upcoming amateur talent hand selected by coach Lilavois. Lilavois will serve is a player/coach of the Pumas, the same role he holds with the Cougars. The Pumas will also be made of members of the existing Cougars roster.
Pumas' players such as Majell Aterado, Pedro Lupercio, Garth Archibald and Matt McDougall all made solid contributions to the Cougars 2007-08 roster. McDougall played for the Pumas during the 2007 summer season. His leadership and stellar play earned him the championship tournament most valuable player award during Stockton's championship run in 2007. Aterado's instant impact on the Cougars' roster immediately helped the team develop a strong and fast midfield attack in the second half of the '07-'08 year.
Members of the 2007-08 Cougars will also participate in select games for the Pumas.
