Pulaski Mariners Win On Opening Night

Pulaski, VA (6/21/2011) - After an hour and a half rain delay, the Mariners took the for their season opener against the Danville Braves. Just under 1,000 people attended the game at Historic Calfee Park to see their hometown win the season opener 5-2.

"I expect our players to play hard, improve as a player on and off the field, and hopefully win a championship," manager Rob Mummau said when asked what he expects from his players during the season. "Identity as a player and learning how to be a professional player no matter what the situation is," are both things the Pulaski Mariners will focus on as these players get used to being a professional baseball player. When asked what his hopes are for tonight he responded simply, "a win and to stay healthy". Ask and you shall receive.

After a bit of a slow start by Mariners starting pitcher Ambriosis Hildalgo, he came to form in the second inning striking out of his next seven batters. Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the third inning, the bats came alive for the Mariners scoring tallying three hits and four runs.

Patrick Brady started the inning off for Pulaski, notching the first hit of the early season on a hard hit single. Jose Hernandez followed with a single of his own, and later scored on a wild pitch to take the lead 2-1. The Mariners went on to score two more runs in the inning by Bryan Burito and Jean Acevedo.

That padding would be all the Mariners would need as they went on the win their season opener by a score of 5-2. Ambioris Hildalgo (1-0) recorded the win, and Reynaldo Sabala (1) got the save for the Mariners. Patrick Brady went 2-3 on the night with a pair of runs for the Mariners, and William Beckwith went 2-3 with a home run for the Braves.

Game two between the Pulaski Mariners and Danville Braves will start at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow night at Historic Calfee Park. Come support your hometown Mariners as they look to win the series and improve to 2-0 on the season.
