Pulaski Mariners News Release

PULASKI - The Pulaski Mariners have announced August 21 as a night of 50 promotions.

They will have everything from an old cellphone collection to an Ebay auction of an autographed bat. In addition, it will be spirit night at the ballpark.

The director of baseball operations, Marty Gordon, wants everyone to wear navy blue to the game. "We want a blue-out evening." He also encouraged everyone to be part of hat night at the ballpark. "We want a sea of blue in the stands along with hats everywhere."

The festivities also include the "grand re-opening of Calfee Park" with a ribboncutting and special opening ceremonies. "We will also announce a Mariner fan of the year award shortly before the game," said Gordon.

The night does not stop there. The team will also hold a bad-gift exchange. Anyone can bring the worse gift they have ever received and exchange it for something from the team's prize vault. Radford University and Virginia Tech students are also being welcomed back to the area with a ½ price ticket with proper ID. The team will also take the opportunity to honor all its adopt-a-families with a special ceremony before the game.

And one of the biggest promotions of the evening deals with a Mr./Ms. Mariner contest. "In working with the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life earlier in the year, we had a wonderful beauty pageant for the men-dressed in the finest dresses, so we holding a similar contest at the game that evening," said Gordon. "We also want to honor our sponsors on the evening and will build upon our ongoing project of art around the park."

The team will also salute the arm-chair athletes of the world with special giveaways.

There will also a tribute to Elvis for his birthday, a sidewalk sale at the clubhouse store, tire tossing, a trash can band, Chinese Valentine's celebration, a rock/paper/sissors tournament, family picture at home plate availability after the game, Karoke in the stands, sidewalk chalk art, lawn mower races, and Swine Flu Awareness Night/Swine Flu Appreciation Night.
