
PSL 2004 schedule released
January 16, 2004 - United Soccer League Championship (USL) News Release
TAMPA, FL â United Soccer Leagues released today the 2004 Pro Soccer League schedule. The 154-game schedule kicks off in Provo, Utah April 10 with the San Diego Gauchos visiting the Premier Development League's BYU Cougars in an interleague matchup. USL also announced the PSL qualification process for the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
Former A-League clubs Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Charlotte Eagles meet up in the second game of the season April 16 in Charlotte.
The following day, the expansion Harrisburg City Islanders open their inaugural season on the road against the Northern Virginia Royals April 17. The City Islanders play host to Pittsburgh in their home opener May 8.
The defending champion Wilmington Hammerheads take to the field at home against the Riverhounds in their season opener April 17 and the runners-up Westchester Flames take to the road to play the 2002 league champion Long Island Rough Riders in their season opener.
The regular season wraps up August 14 with three matches.
The PSL divisional playoffs begin the following week with the top two teams squaring off if both possess a .500 or better record. If the second-place club is below .500, the regular season division champion automatically advances to the league semifinals August 17-29. Three of the four divisions utilizing a two-leg, aggregate score series taking place August 18-22. The Northern, Atlantic and Southern Divisions will play the aggregate series with the Western Division playing a single match. The Pro Soccer League Championship is September 4 and will be broadcast on Fox Sports World.

Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Qualification
The Pro Soccer League will send six representatives to the 2004 edition of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Receiving an automatic berth are the defending champion Wilmington Hammerheads. The remaining entrants will be the top five clubs league-wide after four designated qualification matches.
