City Islanders' Schedule Announced

Harrisburg, PA â The Harrisburg City Islanders have announced their inaugural season schedule, which was released by the United Soccer Leagues (USL) on Friday. The City Islanders will play three road games before playing their first home game at Skyline Sports Complex on Saturday, May 8, 2004, against the cross-state rival Pittsburgh Riverhounds. The Islanders' 2004 opener will be on the road against the Northern Virginia Royals on Saturday, April 17.
Harrisburg will play a 20-game (10 home, 10 away) regular season schedule. The club will play one home game and one road contest against each of the six teams in the Northern and Southern Divisions, and also square off twice with Atlantic Division rivals Long Island and Pittsburgh. Additionally, the Islanders will play four games against teams from the Premier Development League, including two meetings with the Reading Rage.
The Islanders will not play a Western Division team (California, San Diego, Utah) unless they meet in postseason or Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Play.
Of the Islanders' 10 home games, eight will be on Friday or Saturday nights, with one game on Sunday and one on Wednesday. Friday and Saturday games will start at 7:35 p.m., the Sunday game will kick off at 6:05 p.m., and the Wednesday night match will begin at 7:05 p.m.
Four of Harrisburg's first six games, including the team's first two home games, will serve as qualifying matches for the U.S. Open Cup. The U.S. Open Cup is recognized as the United States Soccer Federation's National Championship. Amateur sides and teams from Major League Soccer, the A-League, the PSL, and the PDL all compete in the tournament. As reigning PSL champions, Wilmington garners an automatic berth; Harrisburg will strive to qualify for one of five remaining PSL spots.
"We are very excited with the schedule that the League has provided," said City Islanders General Manager Joe Sierko. "This schedule lends itself to having a good mix of games during every month of the season and will afford a greater opportunity for most fans to attend many, if not all, of our regular season parties."
The City Islanders remain on sale with season tickets for 2004. Islanders season tickets are divided into three categories: General Admission, Reserved, and exclusive "Club Paradise" membership. Season ticket prices start at just $50 for the club's 10 regular season home games. Season ticket holders will hold the first rights to purchase tickets for Open Cup, exhibition, and playoff matches.
