DENVER - Colorado Mammoth captain Gavin Prout entered the 2012 NLL All-Star Game with 16 career assists in all-star competition, tied for the most all-time. On Saturday night, he was the goal-scorer. Prout tied Calgary's Geoff Snider, named the game's MVP, with four goals as the West All-Stars defeated the East All-Stars, 20-18, at First Niagara Center in Buffalo to snap a four-game losing streak.
"I'm not surprised at all he had a game like that," Mammoth rookie forward Adam Jones said of Prout.
Mammoth goaltender Chris Levis, making his second consecutive all-star appearance and his first start, had 28 saves. Colorado forward John Grant Jr., the West Division captain, registered one goal and three assists, while Jones had a goal and four helpers. Mammoth defenseman Rory Smith, a first-time all-star, scooped up six loose balls in the winning effort for the West.
The East led 6-2 after the first quarter, and 11-8 at halftime. Minnesota rookie transition player Jordan MacIntosh (West) tied the game at 15 apiece with one second remaining in the third quarter. Grant's goal 56 seconds into the fourth gave the West its first lead of the night, one it wouldn't relinquish.
The West Division-leading Colorado Mammoth (6-1) takes on the Buffalo Bandits (2-4) next Saturday, March 3 at 5:30pm MT at First Niagara Center. Colorado's next home game is March 10 versus the Washington Stealth at 7pm MT.
