(Nashua, NH) - Brad King homered and contributed a key defensive play late in the game and Nate Teut threw six shutout innings to lead the Nashua Pride past the Long Island Ducks 3-2 on Tuesday night in front of 1,481 fans at Historic Holman Stadium.

The win gives the Pride a 1-0 advantage in the Best-of-Three North Division Championship Series. The series shifts to Long Island for Wednesday night's Game Two and Thursday's Game Three (if necessary).

The Pride opened a slim lead in the third when King blasted his first homerun of the playoffs and extended it in the third when Ducks starter Matt Beech's fourth walk of the inning forced home Chris Petersen to make it 2-0. Beech was knocked out of the game the following inning after Ricardo Cordova singled, advanced to third on two wild pitches and scored on a single by James Lofton.

After Doug Jennings and Pat Lennon drove in runs to make things interesting in the eighth, King preserved the lead with a solid defensive play, tracking down a passed ball and diving across home plate to tag out Kimera Bartee, who was trying to score. Bartee was the second Duck tagged out at a play at the plate on the night; Andrew Salvo had been gunned down in the second by rightfielder Raul Rodarte.

Starter Nate Teut (1-0) earned the win for the Pride, working his way out of a second inning jam to provide six innings of shutout, five hit baseball. Beech (0-1) took the loss for Long Island, allowing three runs on five hits in 5.2 innings. He struck out six but walked seven, including four in the fifth inning. Jeff Sparks pitched the ninth for the save.

The Pride head down to Long Island for tomorrow's Game Two against the Ducks. Brian Looney will oppose Bill Pulsipher, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Fans can tune in to the game with broadcaster Pete Naranjo on the Nashua Pride Webcast, presented by FCG Networks, on nashuapride.com.
