Sky Blue FC News Release
Tinton Falls, N.J.- Sky Blue FC (6-7-4, 22 points) returns to National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) action on Wednesday night, hosting the Orlando Pride (6-11-0, 18 points) in the first match of a home-and-home series that will conclude this Saturday night in Orlando. Kickoff for the Wednesday contest is set for 7:00 p.m. ET at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J.
"Collectively as a team, we are disappointed in our last few results," said Christy Holly, Sky Blue FC head coach. "We are lucky to have a quick turnaround, which allows us the opportunity to rectify some of those previous outcomes. We are very confident that we will put in a strong, winning performance on Wednesday night."
Wednesday night marks the first meeting between these clubs since the Pride was added as an NWSL expansion team this past offseason. Both sides will be looking to end recent misfortunes, as Sky Blue FC has been on the wrong end of its last three games and Orlando has lost five consecutive matches.
In its most recent outing, Sky Blue FC jumped out to a 1-0 advantage over FC Kansas City on the road this past Sunday via a brilliant finish by forward Sam Kerr off an Erin Simon feed in the 40^th minute. Unfortunately for the New Jersey side, FC Kansas City responded with a first half stoppage time tally by Tiffany McCarty before earning the win on an 85^th minute free kick strike by midfielder Yael Averbuch.
The Pride enters Wednesday night on the heels of a 4-2 road defeat to the Houston Dash this past Saturday night, a result that officially eliminated them from postseason contention.
