Preseason IFL QB Power Rankings
March 16, 2023 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
Drew Powell, Arizona: Powell starts the season at No. 1. He is the reigning League MVP for the last two seasons. Powell had an offensive explosion last year as he recorded 43 passing touchdowns and over 2,000 yards passing. That wasn't all, he ran for 605 yards and another 26 touchdowns.
EJ Hilliard, Quad City: Hilliard will be one of the first two quarterbacks featured this week when they face the Arizona Rattlers. Hilliard is looking to get back to his 2022 Offensive Player of the Year form for the Steamwheelers.
Nate Davis, Duke City: Davis will be returning to the field for the first time in nearly a year. He suffered a torn ACL during the first game of the 2022 season. Davis looks to return to 2021 form when he was named Offensive Player of the Year.
Dequan Neal, Vegas: Neal joins Vegas after he played for the Tucson Sugar Skulls last year. Neal, who was the IFL MVP in 2019, tallied 50 passing touchdowns and 17 rushing touchdowns last year. Neal will open the season against one of his former teams, the Iowa Barnstormers.
Alejandro Bennifield, Massachusetts: Bennifield is looking to get back to level that he's been playing at ever since he came off the bench in 2021. Last year, he missed six games due to injury, but still put up 1,328 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. He'll be back at the helm for the Pirates as they began their quest for an IFL title.
Ramone Atkins, Tucson: After spending 2022 in Duke City, Atkins will look for a new beginning in Tucson. Atkins nearly reached the 2,000-yard mark in passing last season and threw 45 touchdown passes. His legs have made him an even greater threat as he also scampered for 286 yards on the ground and 13 touchdowns.
Darius-James Peterson, Iowa: After an impressive rookie campaign, Peterson will be back for the Barnstormers. Last year, they were able to rally behind his play and make the playoffs with a record of 9-7. Peterson passed for over 2,000 yards last year and ran for another 892.
TJ Edwards, Frisco: Edwards is back in charge as Frisco and Coach Billy Back start their season against Green Bay. Last season, Edwards combined for 51 total touchdowns and proved that he can do it all. This season his opponents will have to pick which threat they want to stop.
Lorenzo Brown, Sioux Falls: After an 8-8 season a year ago, The Storm look to Brown to lead them back to prominence. Brown is a veteran in the IFL and has already led multiple championship teams. Now he's back with the Storm and is aiming to bring another title home.
Dalton Sneed, Bay Area: Sneed was acquired from the Sioux Falls Storm in the offseason, and the Panthers are hoping that he'll be able to make the big splash necessary for them to make the playoffs. In his rookie year, shortened by injury, he racked up 1,300 passing yards and 25 touchdowns. Bay Area will be looking for that and more from Sneed as he steps into the starting role for them.
Northern Arizona: After winning the IFL title in 2022, the Wranglers are deciding who they want to be their QB in 2023. Kaleb Barker, who led them to their first title in franchise history, is no longer with the team. Whoever the quarterback is, they will be spearheading the Wranglers attempt to defend their championship.
Green Bay: With just a few days left before they kick off their season, the Blizzard are also still deciding who will be at the helm. Coach Corey Roberson has went on record saying that he feels the offense needs to be revamped. It's apparent that will start with the quarterback.
San Diego: The Strike Force are one of four teams that are still looking for their 2023 starter. After a 3-13 season, they'll be looking for an impact at the QB position that will be able to help them make the playoffs.
Tulsa: The Oilers will play their inaugural game in a little over a week. They are still in the midst of making their decision as to who will be the first ever starting quarterback for the franchise. They'll be looking to replicate the success of newer teams like the Frisco Fighters early on.
