Orlando Predators News Release
ORLANDO, FL - The Orlando Predators continued to bolster their roster Monday as the team prepares for its first day of training camp on February 21. Quarterbacks Xavier Lee and Wil Masoud have been assigned to the roster, along with wide receiver Jermaine Saffold.
Xavier Lee (6-4, 254 Florida State University) returns to the Predators after spending most of 2013 with the San Antonio Talons. The quarterback passed for 577 yards and eight touchdowns, while rushing for 203 yards and three touchdowns in eight games with the Talons. While in high school, Lee set Florida's all-time record for passing yards (9,082), completions (549) and touchdowns (98). The quarterback was named Florida's Mr. Football in 2002 for his efforts, and also won state 3A Player of the Year honors as a senior. Following his career at Florida State, Lee spent time as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens.
Wil Masoud (6-6, 233, Bethel University) is entering his rookie season in the AFL. The quarterback was invited to New York Giants Rookie Mini-Camp following his senior season in 2012, and currently ranks second in Bethel University history with 5,428 passing yards.
Jermaine Saffold (6-0, 200, Missouri State) earned All-MVFC first team honors in 2010 and 2011 while attending Missouri State University. The receiver would graduate from MSU as one of the teams most decorated players in school history after he set records for both career receiving yards (2,221) and season (913). Saffold ranked 25th in the nation with 83 yards receiving per game during his senior year as he doubled the production of the teams next leading receiver. The receiver topped of his excellent college career by running a 4.36 40-yard dash and broad jumped 10 feet, 3 inches at his Pro Day. These numbers caught the attention of the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns, whom the receiver spent time with following the 2012 NFL Draft.
The Predators also announced that five players would be placed on recallable reassignment. Defensive backs Al Phillips and Gary Wilburn, defensive linemen Tim Cheatwood and Larry Ford and wide receiver Josh Bush were all placed on recallable reassignment, with Phillips designation being retroactive.
