Predators Add Former New England Patriots Wide Receiver
January 23, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Orlando Predators News Release
ORLANDO - With the start of training camp just a few weeks away, the Preds added another piece to its roster as former New England Patriots wide receiver Buddy Farnham (6'0, 195, Brown) was assigned to the team for 2012.
The Arena Football League's 25th season opens on Friday, March 9 in Orlando when the Predators host the Pittsburgh Power on NFL Network.
Farnham was signed by New England as a rookie free agent on May 3, 2010 before closing out the year on the Patriots practice squad. He returned to the team in 2011 but was released during final cuts in training camp in September.
"He's proved to be a very productive and smart football player and he's experienced on both sides of the ball," Preds coach Bret Munsey said. "We're intrigued about him and excited to see where he fits in the AFL."
Farnham was named Ivy League and New England Player of the Year and second-team Associated Press All-American following his senior year at Brown in 2009, becoming just the eighth player in school history to surpass 1,000 yards receiving. He finished with 1,003 yards on 74 receptions as a senior.
His 100.3 receiving yards per game ranked fifth in the nation in 2009 while his 7.4 receptions per game ranked eighth nationally. He also ranked third nationally in kickoff return yards (28.6 per return) and eighth in all-purpose yards per game (165.1).
Farnham was a three-time first team All-Ivy and All-New England selection at Brown. He finished his college career with 229 receptions (No. 6 in Ivy League history) and 2,895 career yards (No. 7 in Ivy League history).
Farnham says he's followed the AFL over the years and is looking forward to adding to the extensive history and tradition in Orlando during his time with the Preds.
"For me, as a football player who has been off the field for most of the fall, I just want to play and I look at this as a great opportunity," he said.
PREDATORS FIND A NEW HOME FOR PLAYERS IN ORLANDO
On Friday the Orlando Predators and Northbridge Apartment Homes on Millenia Lake (www.northbridgeapartments.com) reached an agreement to house the 2012 team this season.
"We're very happy to have worked out a deal with Northbridge for the upcoming season," Preds coach Bret Munsey said. "Housing is so important to our players and we feel this is the best place for them to be in the area."
Players currently on the roster for the upcoming season will begin reporting to the team next month.
