Pittsburgh Power News Release
The Pittsburgh Power announce the signing of star wide receiver and kick returner PJ Berry and the re-signing of linebacker Mike Lucian.
The Arena Football League's Ironman Award winner for 2011 while with the New Orleans Voodoo, Berry is considered one of the most versatile and talented players in the league. He returned five kickoffs for touchdowns last season and set a new AFL record in all-purpose yards, with 3,708.
"We're upgrading our special teams, and P.J. has the game-changing ability to lead this effort," remarked Power head coach Chris Siegfried. Owner and General Manager Matt Shaner added, "P.J. is a great player, and we're excited to showcase his many talents to our fans. It was important for him to be on a team that'll give him great exposure nationally and locally, and to play in an NFL-caliber city."
P.J. Berry was named All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association in each of his four years at wide receiver with Virginia State. Berry is one of only two Virginia State players to be named a football All-American. In 2005, he was second in the nation among kick returners with a 34.4 yards/return average. Berry led the Voodoo with 41 touchdowns in 2011, and proved his value on defense in addition to his offensive and special teams prowess.
Lucian appeared in seven games for the power in 2011, primarily at linebacker, but also at fullback, scoring his first AFL touchdown. Lucian played 2010 with the Jacksonville Sharks. While at Penn State, Lucian played all offensive line positions including tight end, as well as defensive tackle for the Nittany Lions.
The Power also signed former Robert Morris University offensive lineman Corey Konycki. Konycki was named Associated Press Football Championship Subdivision second team All-American in 2010 after leading the punishing Robert Morris ground attack to a top 25 ranking and the FCS playoffs.
