(PORT HURON, MICH.) - With 1,753 people at McMorran Arena on Saturday, Oct. 7, the Port Huron Flags secured a victory over the Flint Generals in a pre-season dose of United Hockey League action.
Penalties and power plays dictated the game during the first period for both teams. Port Huron sent players to the box eight different times, compared to Flint's five. Two of the Flags' advantages resulted in goals, by Right Wing Robert Snowball at 5:19 and Defenseman Jeff Cameron at 7:21. Flint responded with a power play goal of its own, by Forward Nick Bet at 11:56.
The second period did not see as many penalties, but resulted in two more goals for the Flags, from Center Greg Bullock at 9:16 and Snowball at 16:27, on another power play. . Flint's five shots on goal during the period were more than doubled by the 12 that Port Huron produced.
Twenty-two seconds into the third, Left Wing Brad Bonello sent the puck into Flint's net for the fifth time that evening, on assists by Snowball and Center Ryan Markham. The rest of the game finished quietly with the exception of a near sixth goal for the Flags that was officially ruled as being kicked into the net.
The official Three Stars of the Game were awarded to Snowball for his four points, Bullock for his goal and two assists, followed by Gillis with three assists.
The Flags victory on Saturday night was their first pre-season win, after losing at Flint on Friday and in a shoot-out at Fort Wayne on Wednesday. The Flags will travel back to Flint on Friday, Oct. 13 for the first regulation season game.
