Pittsburgh Power News Release
(Pittsburgh)The Pittsburgh Power lost their third consecutive game Friday night to the visiting Iowa Barnstormers 55-42 in front of 4,491 fans on Military Appreciation Night at CONSOL Energy Center.
After a back-and-forth battle in the first half, the Power we're able to secure a one point halftime lead. The Power defense played strong in the opening half causing two Iowa turnovers on downs. Andrico Hines made his second start at quarterback for the Power and had a very successful first half throwing two touchdowns.
Hines finished the game 27-of-44 for 299 yards with five touchdowns and four interceptions.
The star of the night for Pittsburgh was definitely wide receiver P.J. Berry who made his way into the endzone three times in the first half. The first score came on a wild screen pass where "Superman" flew by defenders and bounced to the outside for a thirty-yard score. Berry also added a kickoff return touchdown and gave the Power the 28-27 lead with three seconds left in the half on an athletic grab.
Although Barnstormers quarterback J.J. Raterink struggled early throwing no touchdowns in the first half, he was aided by strong defensive play in the second half. Defensive Player of the Game Jason Simpson had two interceptions in the second half that gave Iowa good starting position on offense. Raterink would take advantage of the takeaways and throw two touchdowns to Chris Matthews.
Raterink threw for 234 yards in the gam including 114 to Matthews.
The Power, who continue to fail to take advantages of opponent mistakes while their own mistakes are cashed in, fall to 1-3 on the season and will look to get the season sweep against Orlando, Saturday August 14th, at the CONSOL Energy Center.
