Potential CIFL Championship Preview Features Marion & Saginaw Saturday

April 10, 2014 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Saginaw Sting News Release

SAGINAW, MI -- More than just pride is on the line for two teams when they square off this Saturday, April 12th, at The Dow Event Center. The Saginaw Sting (7-0, leaders of the CIFL North) host the Marion Blue Racers (6-1, leaders of the CIFL South) with playoff implications running wild for both teams. The winner of the contest will control their own destiny with home field advantage should they square off again in the CIFL Championship in May.

Marion's road back to Saginaw has been a remarkable story. In their previous contest (held over a year ago on 2/8/13) the Blue Racers returned to the CIFL and were handed a 49-28 loss to begin the 2013 season. Marion went on to post a 2-8, their first losing season in franchise history. This is not that same Blue Racers team though, and it's clear the Sting cannot take them lightly. Coming into Saturday's contest Marion is riding a 5 game winning streak that includes victories over Dayton, Northern Kentucky, Erie and again last weeks' 10 point road victory over the Sharks.

Led by QB Chris Wallace (8-13 176 yds, 4 TDs 0 INTs in last week's win over Dayton) the Blue Racers know what it will take to keep up with the Sting's high powered offense.

The Sting come into the game understanding that a win would clinch their home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Led by QB AJ McKenna and RB DeShawn Hayes (coming off a 4 TD performance against the Detroit Thunder) offensively the Sting have to score on every possession to ensure they can keep pace with Wallace and the Blue Racers.

Defensively the Sting will need big games out of their play makers as a single turnover could be the deciding factor in the outcome of the contest. Latreze Mushatt (3 INT return for TDs on the season) and Spenser Smith (53 tackles in 5 games) should key a defense that looks to continue its dominance (holding opponents to less than 30 points a game this season).

This marquee match-up of the CIFL season takes place Saturday April 12th at The Dow Event Center. Kickoff is at 7:30PMand tickets start at only $10. For more information visit www.saginawsting.com.
