(Harrisburg, PA, May 24, 2007) - The Harrisburg City Islanders professional soccer team announced today that 2,000 tickets have been sold for the potential U.S. Open Cup Match against the Los Angeles Galaxy. "Even though we realize that the match is still very unlikely, we are thrilled with the response." said City Islanders General Manager Joe Sierko. "The seating capacity at our home field, Skyline Sports Complex, is 2,000 so the match is officially a sell out if we were to play it there. However, we will continue to sell up to 5,000 tickets as we also explore alternate venues that are capable of accommodating the anticipated crowd."
The City Islanders and the L.A. Galaxy have both qualified for the U.S. Open Cup and could meet as early as July 10 depending on the Islanders early round performance and tournament bracketing. The Islanders will begin their quest to keep the dream alive on June 12 when they compete in their first U.S. Open Cup Match in the Club's brief history. The team's opponent and whether the Match will be played at Skyline or on the road will be announced by the Tournament's Director on Tuesday May 29.
The City Islanders of the United Soccer Leagues' Second Division announced on April 1 that they were selling up to 5,000 tickets at $1 apiece for the potential U.S. Open Cup home match against the L.A. Galaxy (Major League Soccer) featuring English soccer icon David Beckham. The City Islanders are selling the "tickets" exclusively via their website www.cityislanders.com.
Fans who purchase tickets will be notified either when the match is scheduled or when it is determined that the match will not occur. If the match is ultimately scheduled the fans will receive an actual ticket valid for the event. If it is determined that the match will not occur, then 100% of all revenues raised will be donated in the name of David Beckham to the Harrisburg Parks Partnership, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose purpose is to assist the City of Harrisburg's Department of Parks and Recreation in the preservation, maintenance, expansion and development of the parks and city playgrounds.
