Portugal's Sporting Lisbon Officially Added To New York Football Challenge

SECAUCUS, NJ (May 14, 2010) - Red Bull New York and the World Series of Football announced today that Portuguese club Sporting Clube de Portugal (also known as Sporting Lisbon) is officially the fourth participant in the 2010 New York Football Challenge. Sporting will join the New York Red Bulls as well as English Premier League clubs Manchester City FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC in the tournament that will take place from July 22-25 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.

A full fixture list, as well as information regarding tickets, media credentialing and times, will be released at a later date.

About Sporting Clube de Portugal: Sporting was officially founded on July 1, 1906. The Club currently has around 90.000 members and nearly 350 supporting clubs and branches in Portugal and around the world. Sporting is one of the so-called "big three" football clubs in Portugal, along with SL Benfica and FC Porto. Despite football's predominant role, the Club is also famous for its wide participation in over twenty other sports. Sporting has won 22 national championship titles, 15 Portuguese Cups, 6 Portuguese SuperCups and one European Cup Winners' Cup (1964). Sporting features a number of Portguese Internationals, including club captain and midfielder Joao Moutinho, forward Liedson, forward Helder Postiga, and midfielder Miguel Veloso. In addition, the club features Chilean International midfielder Matias Fernandez and Montenegran International midfielder Simon Vukcevic.
