Port Huron's Mickael Bedard Named IHL Rookie Of The Year

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Thursday that Port Huron left wing Mickael Bedard has been named the 2009-10 IHL Rookie of the Year as selected by league head coaches, general managers and members of the media.

The 22-year-old Montreal, Quebec native has recorded 73 points in 74 games played so far in his rookie year, with two games remaining on the regular season. Of his 73 points, he has scored 35 goals, including 11 on the Icehawks power play, and has dished out 38 assists. Bedard has notched in five game-winning goals this season and has recorded a league-high tying plus-34 rating. He currently leads all IHL rookies in points (73), goals (35), assists (38), power play goals (11) and plus/minus rating (plus-34).

Bedard recorded his first professional point in his third pro game on October 24th in Flint, assisting on teammate Kevin Hansen's goal. He followed up two games later notching his first professional goal on October 31st against Dayton, which also turned out to be his first game-winning tally of the season for the Icehawks.

The 5-10, 190-pound rookie left wing went on a nine-game point streak from November 11th thru November 28th. During the streak, Bedard registered five goals and seven assists (13 points). So far this season, he has had nine different multi-game point streaks. He also recorded two hat tricks this season, including scoring a league-high three power play goals in one game.

Bedard has earned the IHL Rookie of the Week honor six times and the Meijer IHL Rookie of the Month twice during the season. He will be presented with the award on Sunday, April 18th.
