
Poots, Calvin and Chambers Earn Week 15 Honors

CHICAGO - Utah Blaze WR TYSSON POOTS has been awarded the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week, while Chicago Rush DB JORRICK CALVIN has been named the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week and Kansas City Command WR JACKIE CHAMBERS has been named JLS Ironman of the Week for Week 15 of the 2012 AFL season. In addition to these awards, the AFL is also awarding the Cutters Catch of the Week, Spalding Highlight of the Week, and the AFL Playmaker of the Week. The Cutters Catch of the Week award winner for Week 15 is Pittsburgh Power WR PJ BERRY, the AFL Playmaker of the Week is Tampa Bay Storm WR AMARRI JACKSON and the Spalding Highlight of the Week Award Winner is Georgia Force WR CJ JOHNSON.
RUSSELL ATHLETIC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Poots (6-2, 220, Southern) notched 14 receptions for 190 yards and five touchdowns in the team's 58-55 win against the Spokane Shock in Week 15. He has caught a touchdown pass in five straight games and at least three touchdown receptions in each of the last three games.
RIDDELL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Calvin (5-11, 190, Troy College) was assigned to the Rush roster just two days prior to their victory over the Georgia Force in Week 15. He tallied a team-high 8.5 tackles and two interceptions in his Chicago debut. Calvin now has six interceptions and 57 tackles on the season.
JLS IRONMAN OF THE WEEK
Chambers (5-10, 190, Lane College) finished with 199 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in the Command's win over the San Jose SaberCats. He caught three passes for 55 yards and a touchdown, rushed four times for 31 yards and another score. He also notched five kickoff returns for 113 yards and a third touchdown in the game. This is the second time in three weeks that Chambers has earned JLS Ironman of the Week honors. He will be awarded a timepiece crafted by JLS for his efforts.
CUTTERS CATCH OF THE WEEK
Berry (6-0,195, Virginia State) made a one-handed catch on his back for a touchdown in the second quarter in the Power's Week 15 loss to the Milwaukee Mustangs. Berry finished the game with seven catches for 94 yards and two scores. He leads the League with 2,319 all-purpose yards. He will be awarded a Cutters hat and shirt for his efforts.
AFL PLAYMAKER OF THE WEEK
Jackson (6-5, 215, South Florida) caught 12 balls for an AFL season-high of 220 yards along with four touchdowns in Tampa Bay's loss to Orlando in Week 15. Jackson also tallied two kick returns for 77 yards, bringing his game total to 297 all-purpose yards.
SPALDING HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
Johnson (5-10, 180, Tennessee State) returned a kickoff 53 yards for a touchdown to open the second half of Georgia's Week 15 loss to the Chicago Rush. Johnson finished with 130 all-purpose yards and one touchdown in last week's game. He is 20 kick return yards shy of tying AFL Hall of Famer Barry Wagner for 13th place on the AFL's list of career kick return yardage leaders. Johnson has 6,164 kick return yards in his career.
Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: San Jose's Mark Grieb, Milwaukee's Andrae Thurman, Cleveland's Carlese Franklin, San Antonio's Aaron Garcia, Chicago's Reggie Gray, Philadelphia's Donovan Morgan and Orlando's Glen Fox.
Riddell Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Pittsburgh's Chris LeFlore, Cleveland's Levy Brown, Kansas City's Sergio Gilliam, Orlando's Simeon Castile, Philadelphia's Kent Richardson, San Antonio's Jon Williams and Spokane's Mike Alston.
JLS Ironman of the Week candidates included: Pittsburgh's PJ Berry, Philadelphia's Melik Brown, Chicago's Kelvin Morris, San Antonio's Brent Holmes and Spokane's Terence Moore.
The Arena Football League is also awarding the National Guard MVP of the Week, where fans are given the opportunity to select the winner. Candidates include Kansas City WR Jackie Chambers, Orlando WR Glen Fox and Utah WR Tysson Poots. Fans will have 24 hours to vote beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20. The winner will be announced on Thursday, June 21.
