July 5, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL) News Release
The West Coast League Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by league president Donnie Marbut, are Cal Poly sophomore Ben Polshuk of the Victoria HarbourCats and Emory junior southpaw Jackson Weeg of the Walla Walla Sweets for the week of June 27-July 3.
Weeg started two games for the Sweets, winning both. The left-hander struck out 15 over 13 innings pitched and did not allow a run in starts vs. Bend and at Gresham. Jackson twirled 8 innings of three-hit ball vs. the Elks while walking none and striking 10 in the Sweets 1-0 home win on June 28.
This past spring, Weeg led Emory University to the NCAA DIII College World Series. He went 7-1 with a 2.28 ERA and was a third-team ABCA/Rawlings South All-Region selection.
Weeg is 5-0 with a 1.55 ERA over six starts for Walla Walla this summer.
Polshuk powered Victoria to another winning week, as the HarbourCats went 6-1 and clinched the first-half North title. Ben went 4-for-14 with 6 runs scored, 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and 9 walks while recording a .577 on base percentage.
The junior-to-be is hitting .315 with 5 homers and 15 RBIs for the Cats.
