Playoffs on the Line in Home Finale

FC Tucson welcomes the Richmond Kickers to the desert on Saturday for its final game of the 2021 regular season.

A 2-2 draw with Forward Madison FC on October 23 puts FC Tucson (10-10-7, 37 points) into seventh place, just below the playoff cut line. But the team still controls its own playoff destiny.

A win against Richmond (11-9-7, 40 points) on Saturday would secure a playoff spot for Tucson.

This is the second time this season that the two clubs have faced each other. Richmond won 1-0 on July 31by converting a controversial penalty.

Emiliano Terzaghi, the leading goalscorer in the league, scored from the spot in the 19th minute for Richmond after drawing a contested foul.

Throughout the game, Tucson held an overwhelming offensive edge. It had a 30-9 advantage in shots, including 8-2 in shots on target. Tucson also had 18-3 advantage on shots inside the box and 10-3 on corners. The club also had 66.8% possession.

Richmond's goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald made eight saves to preserve the shut out. On the opposite end of the field, Wallis Lapsley was only called upon to make just one save.

In the 90th minute, Deri Corfe was brought down in the box but the referee waved off the foul.

In Richmond's last game they dropped points against league leaders Union Omaha after going on a five game unbeaten streak.

Emiliano Terzaghi leads Richmond, and the league, with 17 goals scored with season. Jonathan Bolanos follows Terzaghi with only four goals scored.

Akira Fitzgerald also leads the league in saves with 86 made this season. Tucson goalkeeper Wallis Lapsley follows behind him in second with 74 saves.

A win secures FC Tucson's spot in the playoffs this season, it will be the club's first time attending the USL League One playoffs.
