September 6, 2002 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Haven Ravens News Release

The Eastern League's Northern Division Championship Series comes to Yale Field tonight with the Ravens facing a do-or-die situation – they are down 2-0 in their best-of-five series with the New York Yankees affiliate Norwich Navigators. Game one Wednesday night was tied at two until a bloop single by Norwich 3B Brian Myrow in the sixth put Norwich ahead. The Navigators held on for a 4-3 win. In game two last night, the Navigators led 1-0 until a two-run homerun by 2B Teuris Olivares in the seventh game them some breathing room. They added a run in the eighth, then held on for a 4-1 win as the Ravens got the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning with one out but could not score. Game three is tonight at Yale Field, with Jimmy Journell (3-3, 2.71 ERA) taking the mound for the Ravens against the Navigators' Andy Beal (4-5, 3.30 ERA).

Game three is also Italian-American Night at historic Yale Field. Gates to the Backyard Barbecue open early, at 5:05, for the 7:05 start. The first 1,000 fans receive a free bag of pasta courtesy of Stop & Shop, and pasta featuring Palmieri sauce will be on sale. There will be a band playing in the barbecue area before the game, the Italian gondola-themed "Gall Mobile" will be given away during the game, and there will be a FIREWORKS display after the game courtesy of the New Haven Register. The Ravens will also have a fireworks show after game four (if necessary) on Saturday (7:05 start). Tickets are still available for each game.

The Ravens have 2002 playoff tee shirts now in stock. You can order on-line at the Ravens' website or by going directly to https://www.ravens.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=TNHR&Product_Code=m-3-2002&Category_Code=T1

While the Ravens fight to advance in the Eastern League's Northern Division Championship Series, one former Raven is enjoying plenty of success in the International League playoffs. CoCo Crisp, who started this season with the Ravens before being traded to the Cleveland Indians organization, is with Cleveland's Triple-A Buffalo affiliate. The Bisons have a 2-0 lead over Scranton-Wilkes Barre in their best-of-five semifinal series. Crisp is 3-for-9 with a double and 5 RBIs in the series. The winner of that series plays the winner of the Toledo-Durham series.

The Ravens are looking for individuals to be mascots during the offseason at community appearances and other events. If you are interested, contact Manager of Community Relations Will Smith at will.smith@ravens.com.
