May 28, 2009 - ROCKFORD - The Rockford Thunder announced today the two teams that will represent the NIC-10 and Big Northern Conferences on Thursday, June 18, 2009 in the Inaugural Northern Illinois All-Star Classics sponsored by State Farm.
Boylan Catholic High School had three players selected for the game, while Guilford, Hononegah, Harlem and Harvard each had two athletes selected.
NIC-10 All-Stars Kelsey Scarpetta, Jossi Jones (Guilford); Sami Taylor, Shauna Heller (Hononegah); Megan Gallagly, Amy Gallagly (Harlem); Kara Peacock, Megan Skorburg, Emily Cook (Boylan); Megan Smith (Auburn); Amanda Hartzell (Belvidere); Danielle Flack (Freeport); Paula Hacker (Jefferson); Sarina Olsen (Belvidere North); Ashley Pickett (East).
Big Northern All-Stars (plus Rockford Christian and Christian Life) Mackenzie Scott (Burlington Central); Whitney Paris (Lutheran); Kelly Lesniewski, Colleen Lowe (Byron), Taylor Camacho (Rockford Christian); Kelsey Kleveland (Oregon); Jami Miller (Genoa-Kingston); Val McKnight (Stillman Valley); Danny Militello (Christian Life); Megan Roadcap (Hampshire); Hallisey Kunde (Marengo); Kirstin Loeffel (North Boone); Lauren Richert (Richmond-Burton); Kirstin Weidner, Alyssa Stephens (Harvard), Emily Meinert (Winnebago).
"Just like the NUIC All-Stars we announced on Thursday we are extremely excited to introduce this group of players from the NIC-10 and Big Northern Conferences," said Thunder GM Aaron M. Moore. "It will be a lot of fun to see these schools battle it out on the 18th."
Thunder infielder and Oregon High School head coach Jamie Davison will coach the Big Northern All-Star team, while former Harlem High School and Northern Illinois standout Paige Granath will coach the NIC-10 team.
Due to Illinois High School Association (IHSA) rules only seniors are allowed to participate in all-star games.
The Thunder will contribute $1 of each ticket sold for the high school games to the Special Olympics of Illinois. The most valuable players of each game will each be presented with a $500 scholarship from game sponsor State Farm.
"The State Farm Agents involved in this sponsorship are very proud to support local high school athletics as well as the Special Olympics," stated agent Jason Bonomo. "This is a great way for us to be involved in the community."
Tickets can be purchased for the all-star games, the Thunder games or a combination of both by calling the Thunder office. Tickets for just the all-star games will be $5/each or fans can buy a two-game pass for $10/each. Group tickets are also available for both games at $7/each.
