Pitching Woes Continue For Redfish

June 1, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Charlotte County Redfish News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- It was another tough night for the Charlotte County Redfish on the road. After just falling short the night before, the Redfish hoped to even the series against the Foxhounds. Aiken had other plans; they touched Redfish pitching early, handing the Redfish a 10-5 defeat.

Reynaldo Correal (0-2) made his second start of the season and much like his last outing, Correal's night wasn't what he or the Redfish were looking for. Correal set down the Foxhounds in order in the first inning. He came into the second with a one-run lead thanks to a Brian Jarosinki single to left that scored PJ Lehmann, but that was the only lead the Redfish would enjoy for the evening. After Kelly Hunt, Aiken's first baseman, struck out, Ben Bando, the Foxhounds left fielder singled and Jeff Timmons reached first on an Anthony Sandstrom error. With two on and one out, Jeff Landry, who went 3-for-4, hit one of his two RBI singles of the night as the Foxhounds tied the game at 1. The tie would only last one more batter as Tim Drew (2-1), Aiken's starting pitcher, drilled a three-run home run to left-field and the Foxhounds took a 4-1 lead.

Correal would allow another home run, a 2 run shot by Bradley Key in the bottom of the third, as he exited the game having pitched two and one-third innings with seven runs, only two earned, crossing the plate off seven hits. Correal did strike out five and walked only one. The Redfish used four relievers with Brandon Camardese leading the way, taking down the Foxhounds in order in his two innings of work.

The Redfish tried to make it interesting as they had the bases loaded in the top of the eighth against Foxhounds reliever, Kevin Holt. Brian Jarosinki drew a walk and that brought in PJ Lehmann from third but that was all the Redfish would push across. In the top of the ninth, trailing by seven, Sam Martinez tripled into the left-field corner and was brought home as Jose Gutierrez lined a hard double just fair over the first bag. Gutierrez proceeded to steal third and was driven home on a Lehmann ground out. Lehmann, on the night, went 2-for-4 with two singles, two runs scored and an RBI.

The Redfish will look to record a victory in the third and final game of the series tonight, June 2nd against the Aiken Foxhounds. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM. All Redfish games can be heard on 1070 AM WKII and online at www.redfishbaseball.com. After the game, the Redfish will head to Macon for three games against the Music.
