Philadelphia Force News Release
Akron, Ohio-- Frequent baserunners but passed up opportunities brings defeat to the Force in their 2-1 loss to Akron tonight.
Pitcher Lisa Norris gave the Force opportunities early having loading the bases, walking five batters and hitting one in the three innings.
The Force took the lead in the top of the second when Auriel Jenkins was hit by a pitch to lead off, followed by a sac bunt from Emily Friedman. A past ball moved Jenkins to third, and a sacrifice fly from Clare Burnum sacrifice scored Jenkins. The RBI was Burnum's third of the season.
That was the last time the Force would cross home as Norris calmed down, and shut down the offense.
Jessica Sallinger went the distance, and although having a strong performance took the loss.
In the bottom of the third, an amazing play by short stop Alex Newton got a lead runner out at second, but let the speedy Kenora Posey take first. A stolen base, followed by a up-the-middle base hit by Lisa Modglin tied the game at one. Sallinger battled back to close out the inning with two strong strikeouts.
The win was sealed an inning later when Jackie Pasquerella hustled a base hit, and picked up a throwing error from Newton moving her to second. The run scored on a hit by Samantha Ricketts, her first hit of the season.
Due to the rained out game yesterday, games three and four of the series will take place tomorrow, June 27 at noon and 2:05 p.m. in Akron.
