Pirates Recap

The first-place Pirates received some well deserved rest during the past week in which they played only two games on the weekend against the Worcester Sharks on Saturday and on the road against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Sunday afternoon.

In a tightly contested and well-balanced match-up, Alex Biega netted his first career AHL goal and David Leggio turned in another solid performance with 29 saves to lead the Pirates to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Sharks. Leggio ran his record to 8-0-1-0, and 4-0-0-0 in shootouts as he turned away all four Sharks shooters in the extra round.

Saturday's home victory extended the Pirates season-opening home points streak to 10 games (9-0-1-0), which equals the franchise record for a home undefeated streak (9-0-1, Wins-Losses-Ties) established in 1993-94.

On Sunday afternoon, the potent Portland offense was stymied by a tough Bridgeport defensive performance as the Sound Tigers came away with a 3-0 victory. Bridgeport capitalized on the power play as two of the three goals came via the man advantage. Jhonas Enroth returned from a short stint in Buffalo and started in net for the Pirates, stopping 33 of 36 in the loss, which ended a three game winning streak and five game (4-0-1-0) points streak.
