Schutz and Gogulla Impact the Worlds

Felix Schutz and Philip Gogulla of the Portland Pirates recently completed a successful stint with Germany at the 2010 IIHF World Hockey Championships.

The two forwards helped the Tournament hosting Germans advance to the Bronze Medal Game, where they suffered a 3-1 loss to Sweden.

Schutz opened the tournament by registering the winner in overtime as the Germans shaded the US 2-1 in front of more than 77,000 fans at a soccer stadium converted into an ice rink. He also scored the eventual game winner in a victory over Denmark. In total, the 22 year-old registered two goals and two assists for four points in nine games.

Gogulla also had a positive impact on the German's surprising success. The 22 year-old scored the only goal in Germany's 1-0 win over Switzerland to move the host team into the semifinals. The goal was the only point registered by Gogulla in seven games.
