Pirates Double Sound Tigers

BRIDGEPORT, CT - Colin Stuart, Derek Whitmore, T.J. Brennan and Marc-Andre Gragnani each collected a goal and an assist to lead the Portland Pirates to a 6-3 win over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in an American Hockey League game played this afternoon at Arena at Harbor Yard.

Mark Parrish and Corey Tropp also scored for the Pirates, who earned their third straight victory and fourth consecutive win on the road. Portland is now 32-15-4-1 on the season.

Jean Bourbeau, Rob Hisey and Tomas Marcinko scored for the Sound Tigers, who lost for the ninth consecutive time. Bridgeport dropped to 19-28-3-3 on the season.

The Pirates got off to a quick start scoring twice in the opening 41 seconds of the game. Whitmore started the scoring just 13 seconds in followed only 28 seconds later by Parrish to chase Bridgeport starter Riley Gill. Stuart made it 3-0 Portland 5:19 into the period before Bourbeau scored on a penalty shot with less than two minutes left in the period to leave the Pirates ahead 3-1 after one. Gragnani restored the Pirates three-goal lead midway through the second before Hisey and Marcinko scored in a span of 15 seconds to make it a one-goal game (4-3 Pirates) heading into the third. Brennan and Tropp scored in the third to complete the scoring.

The Sound Tigers out shot the Pirates 27-24 in the game as Jhonas Enroth posted the victory.

The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the Game were 1. Brennan; 2. Gragnani and 3. Bourbeau.

The Pirates will be back in action at the Civic Center on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. against the Providence Bruins.
