Pirates Announce 2010-11 Promotion Schedule

PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced their promotional schedule for the 2010-11 season today.

The Pirates open their 18th season of competition, the 34th season of AHL action at the Cumberland County Civic Center, on Saturday, October 9th when the Manchester Monarchs visit the Cumberland County Civic Center for a 7 p.m. contest. Join the Pirates for the first Saturday Night is Hockey Night in Portland game of the season with the first 2,500 fans into the game receiving a free Pirates magnetic schedule courtesy of JobsInME.com, the "Official Job Board" of the Pirates.

2010-2011 marks the return of Pirates Bobbleheads. This season, the Pirates will be giving away likenesses of Jhonas Enroth (December 7th), Tyler Ennis (January 25th), and Nathan Gerbe (March 8th) as part of the Pirates first-ever Tuesday Mini-Bobblehead Collectible Series.

"We put a high emphasis on the experience that Pirates' fans will have when they come to our games," said Pirates Vice President, Sales Jim Beaudoin. "A great promotional schedule is major component of a great fan experience, and we think we have a very strong start for the 2010-2011 campaign. We have already received a lot of inquiries about the new Bobblehead Series, and all we can say is get your tickets and get in line early because they will go quickly!"

Additional premium giveaways will also include the Five County Credit Union t-shirt giveaway on Saturday, December 18th; Team Photo giveaway, sponsored by Brown Fox Printing, on Saturday, March 5th and the Time Warner cable hat giveaway on Sunday, March 13th.

The Pirates will also continue to make a positive impact in the community during their schedule of games. The third annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game, sponsored by Maine Medical Center, in support of the American Cancer Society will be played on Saturday, October 23rd. Members of the Pirates will be sporting the one of a kind "Pink" jerseys and socks during the game. Group tickets to this game are being sold at $15/ticket, with $5 from each ticket being donated to Making Strides. The Pirates have set a goal of raising $10,000 through the sale of these group tickets.

A salute to Veterans & Armed Forces Night will be held Saturday, November 13th. The Pirates will be hosting the Veteran's Day Weekend game in collaboration with News Talk WLOB 95.5 FM in recognition of all the men and women who have served as members of the United States Armed Forces.

The Pirates will also hold a Cystic Fibrosis Night on Saturday, January 8th; support the American Heart Association with a Go Red Game on Saturday, February 5th and present an Autism Awareness Night on Wednesday, April 6th.

Mercy Hospital presents the first of three scheduled post-game skates with the team on Columbus Day, Monday, October 11th, when the Charlotte Checkers make their first ever appearance at the CCCC in a special 1 p.m. start time. Mercy Hospital will also sponsor post-game skates on February 21st and March 13th.

2010-11 event nights include the Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday, December 4th when the Pirates battle the Norfolk Admirals. The annual Kid's New Year's Game will be played on Friday, December 31st at 5:30 p.m. against the Hartford Wolf Pack. The game, an expected sellout, will mark the 16th season the Pirates have celebrated New Year's featuring New England's largest indoor fireworks display at the conclusion of the game. Motor Sports Night, presented by NAPA, takes place Saturday, January 22nd when the Providence Bruins arrive to challenge the Pirates; the newest member of the Pirates Hall of Fame, presented by UNUM, will be inducted on Saturday, March 26th when Charlotte makes their second and final trip to the CCCC and the season ending Team Awards, presented by Creative Awards, and Shirts Off Their Backs Game takes place at the conclusion of the regular season finale against the Springfield Falcons on Sunday, April 10th.
