Mahoning Valley Thunder News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA. - The Mahoning Valley Thunder fell behind early and never recovered on their way to an 80-43 loss at the hands of Wilkes-Barre. With the win, the Pioneers have now defeated the Thunder in all six series meetings dating back to the 2007 season. The Pioneers were nearly unstoppable through three quarters, scoring 21 points or more in each frame. The 80 points surrendered is the most given up by a Mahoning Valley defense in their three year existence.

Pioneer's Quarterback Ryan Vena finished with an almost perfect evening. The 2007 Offensive Player of the Year connected on 18 of 23 passes for 332 yards with seven touchdowns through the air and added another score by way of the ground. Rich Musinksi was on the receiving end of eight Vena passes, scoring four times. With the win Wilkes-Barre has now won 20 straight regular season games at the Wachovia Arena.

The Thunder was led by Quorey Payne who hauled in eight grabs totaling 173 yards and three scores. Payne added a 50 yard kick return for a third quarter score and registered 351 all-purpose yards setting a Mahoning Valley franchise record. Payne shattered the previous record of 267 yards by Kenneth Johnson.

Mahoning Valley falls to 1-3 with Wilkes-Barre improving their record to 3-1. The Thunder returns home to Cortland Banks Field inside of the Chevrolet Centre next Saturday night versus Tulsa. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
