Fargo, ND - The first game of a four game set featured a pitcher's duel between Schaumburg starter Cody Evans (0-2) against Fargo-Moorhead's Chad Rhoades (2-0). The visiting righty just fell a step short as the Pilots (5-12) faltered 4-2 to the RedHawks (10-5).

Evans threw five strong innings, giving up three runs on six hits while walking three and striking three out. Once again, the bullpen put together a nice outing. Ryan Gehring and Tom Lyons combined to throw three innings, allowing just one run on three hits.

The offense just wasn't there on Monday night. Brandon Newton was thrown out trying to score on a Travis Brown single in the third, which would have given Schuamburg the lead at the time.

Joey Gomes was the Pilots' offensive star at Newman Outdoor Field, smacking a pair of doubles with an RBI and a run scored.

Schaumburg had a chance in the top of the ninth when Joe Nowicki walked to lead off the inning with the team down 4-2. But RedHawks hurler Donnie Smith came in to strike out the side and end the threat.

The Pilots continue their four game series with the RedHawks on Tuesday evening.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:02 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Pilots take on the RedHawks. The Schaumburg Pilots Pregame Show gets rolling at 6:45 PM with the game to follow.
