Albany Dutchmen News Release
The Albany Dutchmen (1-3) saw a sixth inning lead swiped away after a strong seventh by the Newark Pilots (2-1) at Bob Bellizzi Field losing 7-4.
Dutchmen starter and Hudson Valley Community College sophomore Matt Hughes went three scoreless innings to start the game before running into trouble in the fourth. The righty went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs with two strikeouts and five hits.
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth, the Dutchmen rallied back to take the lead. After loading the bases, Dutchmen first basemen Steve Anderson walked for Albany's first RBI of the game. Left fielder Matt Wherli then added two more for the Dutchmen with a hard single up the middle. A go-ahead sac fly by Brandon Trinkwon put Albany up 4-3 to end the inning.
The Dutchmen saw their sixth inning efforts go to waste however after a four-run seventh by the Pilots. It was highlighted by a Randy Villa two-run triple followed by an RBI single by Kyle Attl. The inning gave Newark a 7-4 lead that was never relinquished.
Despite the loss, Dain McNabb continued his tear at the plate. The Dutchmen catcher went 1-3 with a run in the defeat. He is now 7 for 13 to start the year. Matt Frahm came down with the win for the Pilots while C.J. Sohl was tagged with the loss in relief.
The Dutchmen will be on the road against the Watertown Wizards tomorrow night at 7 p.m. For all Dutchmen information visit www.dutchmenbaseball.com.
