Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Allentown, Pennsylvania - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (27-28, 62-68) were no-hit by the Syracuse Mets (30-26, 68-63) as six different arms combined for the feat in the 8-0 final on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.
Mark Vientos blasted a two-run homer in the first inning to give Syracuse the lead from the jump before Ronny Mauricio made it 3-0 with an RBI double in the third.
Vientos hit another two-run homer in the seventh and was followed by an MJ Melendez two-run bomb to stretch the lead to 7-0.
Vientos completed his trifecta with a solo shot kicking off the ninth, making it 8-0.
Kevin Herget opened the bullpen game for Syracuse, going the first 1.2 innings before handing the ball to Saul Garcia. Garcia collected four outs and was relieved by Tobias Myers (W, 3-1) who threw three perfect frames to keep the line moving. Chayce McDermott issued a walk in the seventh but escaped without allowing a hit and Joe Jacques retired the side in order in the eighth. Zach Franklin came on and finished the job with a clean ninth, capturing the first no-hitter in Coca-Cola Park history for the visiting Mets.
Chuck King (L, 9-6) allowed just three runs (two earned) over five innings, but took the loss for the 'Pigs.
Following an off-day on Monday, the 'Pigs kick off a seven-game, six-day series on the road against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at PNC Field. The series begins on Tuesday, September 1 with the resumption of the suspended August 16th game before the regularly scheduled game follows (which will now be seven innings). First pitch is slated for 4:05 p.m.
